The South Cariboo Search and Rescue Society (SCSAR) is one of about 100 Search & Rescue groups in the British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program. SCSAR was previously known as the 100 Mile & District Search and Rescue Society. It is a formally incorporated non-profit society and registered charity. SCSAR operates under the direction of the 100 Mile House and Clinton RCMP detachments.

When mobilized by the RCMP, BC Ambulance Service or the BC Coroner’s Service SCSAR provides a service to the citizens and visitors of the South Cariboo area by:
* Searching for lost, missing and overdue persons and
* Implimenting rescues that involve swiftwater, lake ice, technical
rope or avalanche recovery situations.
In addition, we:
* Provide mutual aid and support to neighbouring teams
* Assist with difficult recoveries
* Distribute evacuation alerts and orders
* Conduct evidence searches
* Organize and develop specialized response teams
* Increase community awareness in outdoor safety
* Conduct fundraising activities
SCSAR is funded by generous public donations, grants and fundraising efforts such as concession stands, highway cleanup and offering first aid support for local sporting events. A significant portion of SCSAR's funding comes from the BC Gaming Commission.
SCSAR is based near the community of 100 Mile House, BC.
